Scientific name: Atilax paludinosus

Size: Its weight can range from 2 to 5.5kg with an average range of 2.5 to 4.1kg. From the head to the base of the tail, these animals range from 44 to 62cm, with the tail adding 25–36cm.

Lifespan:up to 17 years in captivity

Diet: they are omnivores and feed on a wide variety of foods such as, crabs, mussels, snails, reptiles, birds, insects, eggs and fruit.

Range: found throughout sub-Saharan Africa

Protection Status: no immediate danger of extinction

Did you know?This species is also known as the Marsh mongoose and is thought to be quite intelligent. It has been seen to throw crabs and snails against rocks in order to split their shells before eating them.
