Scientific name: Paracynictis selousi

Size: body length between 39 and 47cm, a tail length between 28 and 40cm and they weigh between 1.4 and 2.2kg

Lifespan: Unknown

Diet: feeds on insects, lizards, frogs, birds, and small rodents.

Range: found in the following countries of southern Africa: Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Protection Status: no immediate danger of extinction.

Did you know? Not much is known about this species of mongoose but its name is presumably after British explorer and big-game hunter, Frederick Selous.
